9th European Convention for Engineering Deans, Directors and Department Heads

The 2017 convention will be organized in the following sessions:

  • Opening Session
  • Session I: Harvesting Innovation in crossing boundaries

During this session, engineering deans, directors and heads of department will be invited to consider and debate the questions such as:

- Are departmental borders prohibitive for crossing the boundaries?
- Do we appraise professors the best way with the current metrics system?

  • Session II:  Recognition and Accreditation of Engineering Degrees across Europe

During this session, engineering deans, directors and heads of department will be invited to consider and debate the questions such as:
- Is diversity of engineering curricula an asset, or does it hinder recognition and meaningful comparison of engineering degrees? What should be compared?
- To what extent do accreditation and common frameworks contribute to improving the quality of engineering education, and to what extent can they limit innovation in curricula and pedagogy

  • Session III: Governance of Research & Education

During this session, engineering deans, directors and heads of department will be invited to consider and debate the questions such as:
- What type of top-down active management and what kind of bottom-up processes are necessary and expedient respectively counterproductive for novel developments and pending disruptions?
- What competences does the modern university management require to adequately cope with the complexity of the factual reality and to provide a resilient academic environment?

  • Closing Session: “Towards a Munich Agenda”

We intend to support an ongoing leadership dialogue to explore the questions raised since the ECED 2016 at UCL. We believe that much value is generated in the interaction between deans, directors and department heads, who seek the best answers with respect to the context and situation of their individual institutions. We will use ECED 2017 at TU Munich to continue to advance this dialogue.

We welcome your participation and contribution!
